A solitary second-half goal from Vinicius Junior helped Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid past a defensively adept Real Valladolid side.
Real Madrid skimmed past Real Valladolid in their first home outing of the 2020/21 season, thanks to a coolly taken finish by Vinicius Junior in the second half. The Whites now have two wins on the trot in La Liga Santander and are 20 matches unbeaten at home, whilst riding a streak of eight successive wins, in the top-flight.
Los Blancos had a good number of chances which were not put away, either due to poor finish or thanks to Roberto’s great saves. However, Zinedine Zidane’s early substitutions did the track. It was another clean sheet for the side and they pick up three more points in their bid to defend La Liga.
Here’s a look at the talking points from the clash.
REAL MADRID DELIVERED A CHAMPION’S DISPLAY
Real Madrid did not have the most productive outing but they scraped through and their mentality was a crucial factor that helped them. Despite being thwarted from making a breakthrough in one way or another, they finally managed a goal after relentless pressure and turned the screws in the second half.
While a lot of fingers have been pointed towards a few moments of rustiness, the fact that this side has had barely four weeks of rest between seasons and just one pre-season clash needs to be respected. Given the squad depth and quality, it seems only a matter of time before the 34-time league winners are back to their best.
