Real Madrid continued to put pressure on Atletico Madrid in La Liga after labouring to a 2-1 success over Huesca on Saturday.
Real Madrid came back from behind to win 2-1 against Huesca at the Estadio El Alcoraz. Los Blancos continue to keep their slim chances of title defence alive, but the performance was certainly not up to the mark especially in front of goal where they visibly struggled.
A lack of creation in the final third cost the visitors as Javi Gallan opened the scoring in the second half for Huesca. Real Madrid’s display immediately turned a corner from thereon as they probed for all three points without which they could have slipped to fourth place.
Raphael Varane headed in a few minutes before the hour mark after a free-kick from Karim Benzema had hit the crossbar. The central defender was once again on target later on as he capped off a brilliant individual display by helping his side to a much-needed success.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the match.
HOW MUCH LONGER WILL ZIDANE GET AT REAL MADRID?
Real Madrid only edged past Huesca, but not before the 20th-placed La Liga side had a number of clear-cut chances in front of goal. It was another unconvincing display from the Merengues, who now have won just three of their last eight fixtures in all competitions. Zinedine Zidane though for some reason seems to be very safe from the sack.
The Whites are known to be ruthless with managers, but it is clear that Zizou is getting differential treatment. Madrid, besides not having a clear identity as far as gameplay is concerned, have paid the price for several poor transfer decisions made by the boss. It is fair to say that he is not a dead man walking at this point but a change needs to be rung in.
