Real Madrid claimed a 2-0 win over Inter Milan on Wednesday evening, to edge closer to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Real Madrid took a big step towards qualification into the last 16 as they beat Inter Milan at the San Siro. Eden Hazard and Rodrygo scored in either half to give Zinedine Zidane and his men a comfortable and deserved win by a 2-0 margin. Thanks to their second straight win, Los Blancos are now second in their Champions League group.
Inter Milan were kept on the back-foot right from the beginning and went behind within the first few minutes after the concession of a penalty. Arturo Vidal saw a red card for violently protesting against the referee’s decision and from there on, the Nerazzurri never had a stake in the game. In the end, both sides deserved what they got.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the game.
REAL MADRID DEFENDED EXTREMELY WELL
For the first time in the Champions League this season and after eight matches in all competitions, Thibaut Courtois managed to have a clean sheet to his name. The four men ahead of him defended superbly, especially the central defenders in Nacho and Raphael Varane, who were rock-solid in the absence of Sergio Ramos.
Nacho did a terrific job while keeping Romelu Lukaku at bay, whereas his partner, Varane, gave no chances to Lautaro Martinez. At the end of the 90 minutes, Inter had just one shot on target. While the attacking unit did well and scored twice, the plaudits must also go to the defence who managed to top a very good and fluid side.
