Real Madrid were victors in a fourth successive game in La Liga and for the third straight time by a 1-0 margin against Real Valladolid.
A depleted Real Madrid side came away with all three points against relegation-threatened Real Valladolid at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium on Saturday evening. Casemiro’s header was the difference in a 1-0 win for the Whites. The Brazilian has now scored five times in La Liga this season and equalled his best tally in a season from 2017/18.
Los Merengues now find themselves just three points off the top of the table, albeit having played a game more than league leaders Atletico Madrid. The hosts had more clear cut opportunities than the visitors, but a good performance from Thibaut Courtois ensured that they kept a 11th clean sheet in league play this season while winning for the 16th time.
Here is a look at the three talking point from the match.
CASEMIRO COMES UP BIG FOR REAL MADRID ONCE AGAIN
Casemiro was terrific against Real Valladolid and inarguably one of the most important players on the pitch. His goal was what made the difference and he has now struck five times in the league. The 28-year-old has chipped in with the goods in very important matches, including the Madrid Derby which his side won back in December.
Following his goal, Casemiro formed a back three with Nacho and Raphael Varane as Real Madrid shut up shop for the night. His involvement in the defensive duties gave the winning side its most secure moments at the back as Valladolid were unable to create any clear-cut chances. He once again proved to be indispensable by delivering on both ends of the pitch.
