Real Madrid continued to pressurize Atletico Madrid, thanks to another win in La Liga, this time against Valencia.
Real Madrid emerged victorious against Valencia, thanks to a 2-0 result at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium. Zinedine Zidane’s men have now won three matches on the bounce and successfully overcome their slump in form from some weeks ago.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the hosts with a fantastic curled effort from the edge of the box. The Frenchman notched his 12th La Liga goal of this season and his second in as many matches, before a trademark finish from Toni Kroos put Madrid two up at half-time.
A dominant display which saw the Merengues deny Los Che any clear-cut chances saw them take the spoils. Los Blancos are now second in the league standings but have played two more games than Atletico Madrid and one more than Barcelona.
Here is a look at the three talking points from a convincing win.
A COGENT DISPLAY BY REAL MADRID AT THE BACK
Real Madrid were thrashed 4-1 by Valencia in the reserve fixture earlier this season and it was perhaps their worst defensive display of the campaign. However, the Whites turned a corner this time around even with Sergio Ramos absent and Dani Carvajal having been forced out with another injury in the first half.
The visitors were allowed just one shot on target from several yards out. Nacho in particular was on top of his game and is once again proving that he can be trusted for the big games. A slightly unconventional backline with Nacho and Lucas Vazquez at the back is finally starting to click, perhaps at the perfect time considering the resumption of the Champions League.
