3 talking points as Real Madrid claim an emphatic derby win

Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid for the third time this calendar year in all competitions, this time in La Liga Santander.

Real Madrid took away all three points from Atletico Madrid, courtesy of a 2-0 success at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium on Saturday evening. Casemiro and an own goal by Jan Oblak, forced via a stunning effort from Dani Carvajal made the difference in an enticing contest as Los Rojiblancos were beaten for the first time in La Liga this season.

Zinedine Zidane has now managed to see three successive wins and as many clean sheets, thereby easing a considerable amount of pressure upon himself in the last week. The Frenchman’s side now trails Atletico Madrid by just three points; however, Real Madrid have played a game more than their crosstown rivals in the campaign.

Here is a look at the three talking points from El Derbi.

REAL MADRID PUT IN A CHAMPION’S DISPLAY

Real Madrid put up 10 straight wins in June and July to claim their 34th La Liga crown and are hunting for their 35th this time around. Los Merengues have made it clear that the Spanish premiership is their primary objective due to the incredible amount of consistency that’s required to win it and flexed their title credentials on Saturday once more.

The Whites were up against an unbeaten side that had conceded just twice all season but delivered in a match where the stakes are always high. With a relatively easier deficit to be chased now, Los Blancos are in a good position to defend the league and with incredible displays like these, there is no reason why they cannot win their second title on the trot.
