Real Madrid kept their hopes of defending La Liga alive and kicking by seeing off Granada in their penultimate away fixture of the season.
Real Madrid thumped Granada 4-1 at the Nuevo Los Carmenes on Thursday evening to stay within two points of Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
Luka Modric and Rodrygo put the Whites in complete command at half-time and it was only their match to lose. While Granada did create a few openings and were better in the second half, the die was more or less cast on the result.
Jorge Molina halved the deficit with 20 minutes to go until full-time, but Alvaro Odriozola and Karim Benzema were on target soon after within a minute of each other to complete the rout. It was the first time since January that Los Blancos scored four in a match.
What were the talking points from the match?
MIGUEL IMPRESSES ON HIS FIRST REAL MADRID START
While Miguel Gutierrez has previously come off the bench to good effect, he was awarded with his very first start for the first-team against Granada. The left-back was impressive in defence and offence, also setting up a delicious assist for Modric in the first half. Defensively also, he made no noteworthy errors and nullified the opponent’s threat down his flank.
Considering that Marcelo may be living his final days as a Real Madrid player, Miguel promises to be a brilliant back-up for Ferland Mendy. The academy product will only develop with time and similar to Sergio Reguilon a few years ago, the 19-year-old is one of the finds of the season from the academy.
