Real Madrid lost ground on a tight title race in La Liga after a goalless draw versus Getafe did not yield three much-needed points.
Real Madrid and Getafe played to a 0-0 draw at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday evening in their La Liga meeting. The Whites, who had only 13 outfield players available from the senior team, were unable to breach a high-pressing side despite a spirited performance from some of the younger players.
Zinedine Zidane’s charges have once again lost ground in La Liga and find themselves three points behind Atletico Madrid in second place, with a possibility of going one below Barcelona as well if they win their game in hand. Although they were unbeaten for a 15th successive game, the draw certainly doesn’t help Los Blancos’ cause of defending their title.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the game.
REAL MADRID FULLBACKS DISAPPOINT IN EVERY ASPECT
With all his primary options on both defensive flanks out, Zidane was forced to go with Alvaro Odriozola and Marcelo as the fullbacks. In truth, it was a dispirited from both as they failed to create any impact going forward and contributed less defensively. Their recent performance goes on to show why Zidane has opted against playing them.
Odriozola was terrible with his first touches and made risky back passes. He was unable to contain Marc Cucurella’s threat and as a result, the attackers were forced to come back and defend. Marcelo meanwhile made similar errors as Odriozola but was slightly better going forward. Los Merengues will surely look to sell them in the summer.
