Liverpool toppled Arsenal by a 3-1 margin in the third round of Premier League fixtures on Monday evening.
Liverpool got the better of Arsenal at the Anfield in both sides’ third Premier League fixture on Monday evening. Jurgen Klopp finally thwarted Mikel Arteta’s run of two consecutive wins against him, thanks to Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota, who helped the hosts come back from a goal down after Alexandre Lacazette scored for the visitors.
The Reds continue with their 100% start and in doing so, join only Everton and Leicester City to have a clean slate of wins in their opening three fixtures. Klopp’s men are well on track to defend their league crown after a positive start to the campaign and having seen off two of the big six opponents in the last two outings.
Here’s a look at the three talking points from a clash between two of the league’s top teams.
LIVERPOOL FULLBACKS NEED TO DO MORE DEFENSIVELY
Andy Robertson scored the goal which put Liverpool in the lead and was assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, a poor miskick from the Scottish gifted Lacazette a goal. Both of the club’s fullbacks have been doing an incredible job going forward but they need to step it up at the back given that they could be punished in the future.
Leeds United attacked the Reds’ wings and were able to hit them for three on opening day whereas Chelsea also looked like a threat last week at the Stamford Bridge. Arsenal’s only significant chance came from Alexander-Arnold being caught high up and even the Gunners looked to exploit their defensive frailties out-wide more often than not.
