3 talking points as Liverpool clinch a close shave victory in the Premier League over Sheffield United at Anfield

The 2019/20 Premier League champions, Liverpool, have not been at their very best so far at the start of the new 2020/21 Premier League campaign. The Reds, unfortunately, have been dealt with a serious injury crisis so far as the club recently lost their main defender, Virgil van Dijk. Along with the Dutchman, there several other players as well who have been sidelined including Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, and Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sits second in the table behind Everton and have conceded 14 goals this season in just six games played. Quite a shocking stat for the Merseyside club given how well they were organized last season defensively. Nonetheless, the fixture against Sheffield United at Anfield was indeed a controversial one due to the VAR decision for the penalty in favour of the away side. However, the Reds managed to turn around the score as the game concluded 2-1.

Liverpool have lacked an ideal backup for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, however, with the signing of Diogo Jota, the Reds seem to have found their man. Jota ideally can play anywhere in the front three and Jurgen Klopp strongly believes that the Portuguese forward can take the side to a higher level over the course of the season.

In the game against Sheffield United, Jota managed to score the all-important winner after converting a brilliant cross from Sadio Mane that came down from the left-wing. Diogo Jota now has two goals and one assist in four Premier League games for the Reds, it seems like the 41 million pounds have been well spent.
