3 talking points as Leeds United shock Manchester City at Etihad Stadium

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were handed a shocking defeat at home against Leeds United despite being down to ten men.

Manchester City have failed to defeat Leeds United this season after playing out a 1-1 draw at Elland Road followed by a hard-fought 1-2 win at the Etihad Stadium. However, Pep Guardiola’s side looked like the better team yesterday against Leeds but were futile in the final third despite having a numerical advantage.

Stuart Dallas scored right at the brink of half time to open the scoring for the visitors. It soon then went helter-skelter for Marcelo Bielsa as his ever-reliable captain, Liam Cooper, picked up a red card due to a dangerous tackle on Gabriel Jesus that could have ended in a fatal manner for the Brazilian.

Despite being down to ten men during the entire second half, Leeds United kept their spirits high and made inroads into Manchester City’s half which finally paid off when Dallas struck for a second time in injury time to give Leeds the lead. A disappointing fixture for the Manchester City faithful but certainly a remarkable and memorable one for the Whites.

29-year-old Stuart Dallas has been Leeds United’s beacon of hope against the top Premier League teams this season. So far, Dallas has scored seven goals in the Premier League out of which two were against Manchester City, another two against Leicester City and one against Manchester United.

Against Manchester City, the Irish midfielder pulled off a sensational performance to seal all three points for Leeds United. He scored right before half time and then went on to score in injury time after Ezgjan Alioski played him through on goal to slot the ball clear past the reach of Ederson. Stuart Dallas’s brace against the Sky Blues has seen Leeds progress higher up the table to the ninth position.
