Chelsea returned to winning ways after three winless results in all competitions. The Blues defeated West Ham 3-0 at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea got the better of West Ham to finally win after two Premier League losses. The Blues claimed a 3-0 success over their London rivals, thanks to a header from Thiago Silva and quickfire brace from Tammy Abraham in the backend of the match. Frank Lampard’s men are now placed fifth in the standings, just a point behind the Champions League spots.
As usual, the west Londoners, and Timo Werner especially, had several chances to score more and the margin of victory could have been much bigger. By the end of the day, the score-line made it look just like any other regulation win but the hosts genuinely played some good football and claimed a very crucial win to move forward in the league.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the Chelsea success.
ABRAHAM-GIROUD COMPETITION INTENSIFIES AT CHELSEA
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has employed both, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham, in the central role since Timo Werner performs better when coming inwards from either flank. Both out-and-out strikers are great headers of the ball and have incredible hold-up play, but in recent fixtures, the Frenchman has edged out the Englishman for minutes.
Tammy Abraham took his chance in the best manner and gave Lampard another selection headache as he scored twice. If the former Swansea loanee does maintain consistency, it would be unfair on Giroud to be benched because he too has played well when called upon. Lampard may have to start doing without Werner and make the harsh decisions.
