Chelsea were comfortable winners against Leeds United on Saturday evening as they grabbed top spot in the Premier League standings.
Chelsea grabbed top spot in the Premier League standings, at least until Tottenham and Liverpool play on Sunday, thanks to a 3-1 win over Leeds United. Olivier Giroud, Kurt Zouma and Christian Pulisic ensured that the 2000 fans who visited Stamford Bridge for the first time since March went home happy after Patrick Bamford scored first.
Frank Lampard could have surely seen his side score more goals as Timo Werner among others missed several easy chances. Unfortunately, another one of his wingers picked up a hamstring injury as Hakim Ziyech had to be taken off in the first half. The Blues are now unbeaten in 16 successive matches and kinking their title contention.
Here is a look at three talking points from their win.
WERNER MISFIRES IN ANOTHER CHELSEA FIXTURE
Timo Werner has scored four times in the Premier League and thrice in the Champions League this season but continues to miss golden chances. The Germany international was served up a goal on a plate but squandered the opportunity from right in front of an open net whilst also hitting the crossbar in the first half.
He is surely going to deliver but the missed chances may prove costly for the west Londoners down the line and it is high time that the former Leipzig striker makes the most of them. The Leeds fixture was not the first time that Werner missed a couple of excellent chances but Lampard and the Chelsea faithful will hope it’s the last.
