Chelsea were victors against Newcastle United when the two sides met on Monday evening in the Premier League.
Chelsea moved to fourth place in the Premier League standings, courtesy of a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the Stamford Bridge on Monday. Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner scored in the first half to give the hosts a comfortable win on home soil.
Giroud, who replaced the injured Tammy Abraham drilled in a powerful finish after Werner’s cross was parried back into his way. The Frenchman continued his rich run of form, whereas Werner also scored for the first time in over a thousand minutes, a much-needed goal.
Newcastle created a few opportunities but were unable to thwart a disciplined Chelsea defence. The Magpies are now 17th in the standings but are relatively safe from the drop, as they sit seven points over 18th-placed Fulham although having played a game more.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the match.
CHELSEA ARE WHERE THEY NEED TO BE
Chelsea continued to thrive under new management with a fourth successive Premier League victory. The Blues are now in the top four of the league for the first time in 2021 and suddenly, there is bright optimism that they will be able to finish the season on a good note. Not to forget, they are also in contention for the Champions League and FA Cup.
Atletico Madrid stand in the way of the west Londoners’ progression to the quarter-final and from a defensive standpoint, Chelsea are more than ready to take on the La Liga leaders. They are also slated to face Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-final and the meeting against the Blades is likely to be a comfortable win.
