3 talking points from Barcelona’s resounding win over Getafe in La Liga

Barcelona thrash Getafe 5-2 at the Camp Nou in a La Liga fixture to boost their hopes of winning the Spanish league title this season.

Barcelona emerged victorious over Getafe at the Camp Nou as they defeated the visitors 5-2. A brace from Lionel Messi, an own goal by Sofian Chakla of Getafe followed by a goal each from Ronald Araujo and Antoine Griezmann sealed Barca’s resounding victory.

In the first half, the hosts struggled to break down the opponent’s defence as they sat deep in what looked like a six-man defensive line. Getafe had one clear intention and that was to prevent Barcelona from scoring. Jose Bordalas’s side sat deep for most of the first half and eliminated a significant amount of attacking threat from Ronald Koeman‘s men.

However, in the second half, two late goals from Ronald Araujo and Antoine Griezmann extend the hosts lead over the visitors with little to no time to play.

The Catalans are now placed third in the league and have a game in hand with 31 fixtures being played so far. With that being said, the title race is still an open one for all three teams- Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The brace against Getafe has seen Messi propel as the top scorer in Spain’s top-flight division with 25 league goals to his name.
