Barcelona defeat Real Sociedad 2-1 at the Camp Nou in a matchday 19 fixture that was scheduled earlier due to Super Cup commitments.
Barcelona came from behind to claim three vital points against Real Sociedad, winning by a 2-1 margin in La Liga. Willian Jose put La Real ahead after the Blaugrana failed to clear their lines from a corner, but Jordi Alba quickly restored parity. The scorer of the equalizer quickly turned provider to Frenkie de Jong, whose initially chalked off goal stood after VAR dialogue.
Sociedad have fallen to defeat for the second time in the league this season but they certainly had chances to equalize and perhaps even score the go-ahead goal, as did Barca. Both the sides squandered a number of attempts in a second half that was full of chances created as the hosts went on to collect all the points at stake.
Here is a look at three talking points from the fixture.
BARCELONA MUST NOT HAVE FALSE HOPE AFTER THE WIN
Barcelona won against a potential title contender and were perhaps the better side at least in terms of chance conversion. However, Real Sociedad also had their good moments but it was once again Marc-Andre ter Stegen who came to the Catalans’ aid. While the win is, without doubt, a good result, it must not flatter the hosts.
Against better finishers and without a bit of luck in their favour, they would have been made to pay. Moreover, both goals also came from very unlikely sources while the winner was indeed a tight call regarding an offside but rightly stood. Valencia will visit Camp Nou next and provide another stern test to Ronald Koeman and his men.
