Barcelona dropped two more points in La Liga after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Deportivo Alaves on Saturday evening’s meeting.
Barcelona were held to a fourth straight winless result in La Liga as they could pick up no more than one point against Deportivo Alaves on Saturday. Antoine Griezmann rescued the visiting sides blushes with his first goal in La Liga this season but the hosts did a good job at the Mendizorrotza despite playing the final half hour with ten men.
Neto’s error was heavily punished by Luis Rioja to open the scoring in the first half. Lionel Messi among several other Barca players had a freekick cleared off the line but by the end of proceedings, a point seemed to be a fair result but one that leaves the Blaugrana placed 13th in the league standings.
Here is a look at the three talking points from the fixture:
BARCELONA DESPERATELY NEED TER STEGEN BACK
Neto has not been as bad as his mistake against Alaves would say but he has certainly not been anywhere close to Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s calibre either. The Spaniard has been playing so far in the season due to an injury to the Germany international but now that the regular shot-stopper has returned to training, he must come back soon.
Ter Stegen is integral to Barca not only because of his incredible prowess in between the sticks but also due to his composure on the ball which helps the team in playing out from the back. Neto has never been great with the ball at his feet and was punished in what may well be his final game as a makeshift regular ahead of the 28-year-old’s return.
