Barcelona ran out 3-2 winners against Athletic Bilbao, thanks to a comeback after going a goal down within minutes of kick-off.
Barcelona moved up to third place in La Liga, thanks to a 3-2 win against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames. Pedri scored his second goal for the Catalans before Lionel Messi added a brace. Inaki Williams had opened the scoring initially, before Iker Muniain scored another consolation for the hosts in second-half stoppage time.
Ronald Koeman managed to guide his men into the top four for the first time this season, but it remains to be seen whether Barca would be impressed by their display although they won. Having said that, here is a look at the three talking points from a goal-fest.
BARCELONA NEED TO SORT OUT DEFENSIVE ISSUES
Barcelona outscored the opponent but their defensive issues continued to persist as they conceded two more goals, having now conceded 17 times in the league this season. The Catalans are without Gerard Pique for the foreseeable future and need to sign a central defender this month, especially with Clement Lenglet underperforming as well.
For both goals, the defending could have been much better and the problems are wide and many. The fullbacks often get caught out of position and higher up the pitch, whereas those in the heart of the backline are lacking experience and commit silly errors. Eric Garcia is on the club’s radar but whether the youngster is their solution also remains to be seen.
