LIONEL MESSI REDEEMS HIMSELF AGAINST ATHLETIC BILBAO

In the Spanish Super Cup final, Lionel Messi was far from his best form. The final ended on a sour note for the captain who picked up a red card along after allegedly punching an Athletic Bilbao player. Despite the controversy and the loss in the final, Messi redeemed himself against the Basque side last night.

The 33-year-old scored mesmerising free-kick as he curled into the top corner past the reach of Unai Simon to score the opener of the game. Apart from the free-kick goal, Messi also completed the most dribbles in the game (11) as he tormented the Athletic Bilbao defence with his quick turns and feints.

Lionel Messi was awarded the man of the match award for his performance as he was by the far the most creative player on the field last night. He registered four chances created to his name along with a goal from the free-kick. Overall, it was a vintage performance from Leo Messi.
