ATLETICO MADRID HAVE THEMSELVES TO BLAME
Atletico Madrid have been built on defensive solidity, but they created a large number of chances against Barcelona. Angel Correa, Luis Suarez and Yannick Carrasco had brilliant chances in the first half and should have settled the game in the first half itself. However, poor decision making and finishing cost the league leaders two points in Barcelona.
Fortunately though, they continue to have a better head-to-head record against the Catalans this season, courtesy of a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign. The league title may well have been Atletico’s to lose if they won on Saturday, but as things stand, they must win all their matches and hope for Real to slip up.
REAL MADRID HAVE AN ADVANTAGE AFTER FAVOURABLE RESULT
A draw or loss for Atletico Madrid is definitely the most favourable result for Real Madrid, who now have an advantage in the title race and La Liga is perhaps theirs to lose. Los Blancos face Sevilla on Sunday evening and three points would take them to the top of La Liga, jointly with Atletico Madrid, with three games to play until the end of the season.
In the event that two or more clubs share equal points, La Liga is decided on the basis of head-to-head, first. The Whites have a superior record against both, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. However, they arguably have the toughest run of fixtures too. With their fate in their hands, Real Madrid may well be four wins away from winning La Liga once more.
