3 talking points as Aston Villa stun Tottenham Hotspur at home

Tottenham Hotspur were handed a defeat in their own backyard by Aston Villa in their last home fixture of the Premier League season.

Tottenham Hotspur fans were left speechless after Aston Villa emerged victorious at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by a scoreline of 1-2. Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring for the hosts after an emphatic strike that was sent into the top corner in the first ten minutes of the game. However, the Dutchman’s efforts were soon nullified after an untimely clearance attempted by Sergio Reguilon in the Tottenham box saw the ball fly past the reach of Hugo Lloris as an own goal.

After Reguilon’s catastrophic own goal, the visitor’s took advantage of Tottenham’s low morale and Ollie Watkins found the back of the net for the 14th time in the Premier League this season to give his side the lead. The hosts went into the break with a goal down and were unable to turn the score around in the second half despite several attempts. Aston Villa were clearly the better side and deservedly picked up three points on Wednesday evening.

KANE TOOK HIS FINAL LAP AS A TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR PLAYER

Harry Kane has been linked with an exit this summer transfer window, seeking a new challenge. The 27-year-old forward was not at his best and clearly lacked the motivation that was seen earlier in the season when he was firing on all cylinders under Jose Mourinho.

After the full-time whistle, Kane was the only Tottenham player to walk across the field and thank the fans. A dejected and worn out look was visible on the Englishman’s face while he took the time to thank the supporters at the stadium. This could have potentially been Kane’s final home game as a Tottenham Hotspur player if he is sold at the end of the season.

Recently Kane made a statement about his future at Tottenham:

I think there is definitely a conversation to be had. It’s a moment where I have to reflect and have a conversation with the chairman. I hope we’ve a good enough relationship. After 16 years, I hope that we can have a honest conversation.
