Arsenal were beaten in the Premier League for the third match running, this time by Burnley who claimed their first win at the Emirates.
Arsenal were defeated at the Emirates Stadium, 1-0, by Burnley after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang diverted the ball into his own net in the second half. The Gunners were defeated for the third time on the bounce in the Premier League and remain without a win in as many as five straight matches, losing four of them.
Mikel Arteta’s men are in a position of genuine menace and sit 15th in the Premier League, lingering just five points over the relegation zone. At the time being, the Europa League seems to be the only competition in which they are on track but with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in it too, winning looks unlikely.
Here are three talking points from the match.
ARTETA SHOULD BE SACKED BY ARSENAL
Arsenal must sack Mikel Arteta as soon as they can. The Spaniard is probably at the helm to date only because of his early success as the head coach, but his time has to be ended for broader objectives. Arteta does not seem to be giving any direction to the team and an inexperienced manager is the last thing the club needs in a seemingly freefalling situation.
The former Manchester City assistant has already lost seven times in the league this season and all things point towards the poor run of form being a regularity. Massimiliano Allegri was linked with the north London side’s job a couple of months ago and could be a good addition with Arsenal requiring more defensive stability than ever given the ongoing run.
