Chelsea forward Willian has been linked with a switch to the Old Trafford following the expiry of his contract. Here’s why he should join the Red Devils.

Chelsea, under the leadership of Frank Lampard have drawn a lot of plaudits this season for their style of play as well as the ability of their manager to blood in youngsters into the first team and giving them opportunities to flourish.

However, the senior players in the squad like Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Pedro and Olivier Giroud have been crucial to Lampard’s tactics and development of young talent at Chelsea. Among all the senior players, Willian Borges has been one of the standouts when it comes to performing in the big games and the work rate in each and every game which has made him one of Lampard’s favourites this season. The player’s contract set to expire this season and recently agreed an extension which will allow him to finish the Premier League season with Chelsea.

There have been plenty of big clubs like Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked with a move for the free agent this summer, but as reported by the Express, the Brazilian could move to Manchester United because he is looking to stay in England. We will look at the reasons why we feel Willian will be a perfect fit for Manchester United:

Most of the losses United have suffered have been from the teams in the bottom half particularly due to their inability to break teams down who defend with a deep defensive block. Willian in these situations will prove to be a plan B as his experience and quality on the wings and the ability to take players on will prove very beneficial for United to play against teams who operate with a deep defensive block.

Manchester United have at times this season struggled with injuries and a thin squad.  Gunnar Solskjaer has been forced to play the likes of Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata Jesse Lingard on the wings which has not been positive for United as they dropped crucial points in the middle of the season resulting them being five points behind in the top four race.

Willian will prove to be an excellent substitution to have as he has all the qualities that the Norwegian boss desires in his forward players to have. Moreover, an injury to the likes of Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford will not prove to be a worry with the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk star on the sideline as on his day he is a world-class player, no matter his age.

There isn’t any argument about the class and quality that Willian provides on the football pitch. However, his calibre and the number of trophies he has won over the years will certainly provide experience which is needed in this United squad. Despite looking good, they lack serial winners in their squad apart from Paul Pogba and the acquisition of Willian will provide much needed experience in the dressing room.

It has been no secret that United have been in the market for a winger with their sights locked on the landing of Jadon Sancho. Willian can play on both flanks and has incredible shooting ability as well can create chances from the corners of the pitch as well as play as an inverted winger, hence signing the Brazil international on for free can prove to be some shrewd business from United.

Do you think Willian will be a good acquisition for Manchester United?
